As cancer treatments and survival rates improve, more patients who are facing treatment are concerned about preserving their fertility.
Louisville Reproductive Center offers some options for patients receiving treatments that may affect their ability to procreate.
Embryo cryopreservation is a proven method for preserving fertility. After hormonal stimulation to produce mature eggs,
the eggs are removed from the ovaries via an ultrasonically guided procedure here in our facility. They are then fertilized with sperm from your
partner or another donor to create embryos that are frozen for future use.
Sperm cryopreservation is a method of preserving fertility for men who will undergo cancer treatment.
The sperm sample is collected, analyzed and then frozen for future use.
While still experimental, procedures for cryopreservation of eggs are rapidly improving. This strategy will be available to patients in the near future.
